Díaz was looking for a landscape architect to jazz up the forests around his residence inside Chapultapec Castle. He had previously worked in Peru for their government and there, he had made a name for himself. Matsumoto had come to Mexico City to forge a friendship between Japan and Mexico. In 1896, Japanese immigrant Tatsugoro Matsumoto was sent to Mexico City to work for President Porfirio Díaz. The story of how the Jacaranda trees in Mexico City arrived here is a fascinating tale.
